Neil Alden Armstrong (5 August 1930 – 25 August 2012) was an American astronomer and the first person to set foot on the Moon. Neil Alden Armstrong was also an aerospace engineer, naval officer, test pilot, and professor. He was in the Navy before becoming an astronaut. While in the Navy, he also took part in the Korea War. He graduated from Purdue University and then joined a Dryden Flight Research Center and flew over 900 flights as a test pilot. After serving here, he got a master’s degree from the University of Southern California. Armstrong is known as the first man to step on the Moon as an astronomer on the Apollo campaign. Before this, he had also traveled to space during the Gemini campaign.
